Privacy Policy

EchoCalculator is a static reference site with no accounts and no comment system. We collect the minimum data needed to run the site, understand readership in aggregate, and (where advertising is active) serve ads through Google AdSense, whose cookies are described below.

Information We Collect

We do not operate user accounts, and we never ask you to register to read this site. If you email us, we receive your email address and the contents of your message, used only to respond. Like almost every website, our hosting and analytics may record standard technical information — pages visited, approximate location at city level, device and browser type, and referring pages — in aggregated, non-identifying form.

Cookies and Advertising

This site may use cookies for basic functionality and measurement. Where Google AdSense advertising is active, Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising through Google's Ads Settings, and you can control or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings. Blocking cookies will not prevent you from reading any content on this site.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not run our own behavioural tracking profiles of individual readers.

Articles link to external references (for example, Encyclopaedia Britannica and Wikipedia). Those sites operate under their own privacy policies, which we do not control and encourage you to read if their practices matter to you.

Your Rights and Contact

Depending on your jurisdiction (including under Australian privacy law and the GDPR), you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you — in practice, that means email correspondence. To exercise any of these rights, or for any privacy question, contact us at contact@echocalculator.com and we will respond promptly.

This policy may be updated as the site's services change; material changes will be reflected in the 'last updated' date shown on this page. This policy was last updated on 22 October 2026.

What We Do Not Collect

Some privacy policies are easiest to understand backwards. EchoCalculator has no user accounts, no comments system, no checkout and no newsletter forms inside articles, so we do not collect account profiles, passwords, payment details or contact lists, and we hold no database of readers to sell, rent or trade. We never sell personal information. What follows is what actually exists: cookies, advertising technology, analytics, server logs and the email you choose to send us.

Cookies in Detail

Cookies on this site fall into three kinds:

  • Essential cookies set by our hosting and content-delivery infrastructure for security, load balancing and basic functionality. The site works with these alone.
  • Analytics cookies, used to produce aggregate statistics — which pages are read, for roughly how long, and in what order — rather than profiles of identified individuals.
  • Advertising cookies, set by Google AdSense and its partners when ads are shown, as described in the next section.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time; the articles remain fully readable with cookies off. Blocking advertising cookies may mean you see non-personalised ads instead of personalised ones.

Google AdSense and Third-Party Advertising

EchoCalculator is supported by advertising served through Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits across the web. You can opt out of personalised advertising at any time through Google Ads Settings, and learn about or exercise wider industry opt-outs at aboutads.info/choices and, in Europe, Your Online Choices. Where consent is required before advertising cookies are set — including for readers in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland — ads are served in line with Google's consent requirements. Third-party vendors' own privacy policies govern the data they collect through their cookies; we do not control those cookies and receive only aggregate advertising reports.

Affiliate Links and External Retailers

Some articles link to books and products on external sites under affiliate programs. Clicking one takes you to that retailer, whose privacy policy then applies. We may receive an aggregate commission report from the program — totals, not a list of who bought what — and we do not receive your name, address or payment details from affiliate purchases.

Analytics and Server Logs

Like almost every website, our servers keep standard logs — IP address, browser type, pages requested and timestamps — which we use for security, debugging and aggregate traffic statistics, and which are retained only as long as needed for those purposes. Aggregate analytics (page views, approximate geography at country level, device category) help decide which topics to expand; they are not used to build profiles of individual readers.

Email You Send Us

If you email contact@echocalculator.com, we keep the message and your address while the conversation is relevant — for example, until a reported correction is resolved — and you can ask for your messages to be deleted at any time by writing to the same address. Email contents are never published without permission and are never added to a marketing list.

Children

EchoCalculator is written for adult readers and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children; if you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Australian Privacy Law and the GDPR

EchoCalculator operates from Australia and handles personal information in line with the principles of the Australian Privacy Act 1988. If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK, the GDPR gives you the right to access the personal information we hold about you (in practice: your emails to us and standard server logs), and to request rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and to object to processing. To exercise any of these rights, email contact@echocalculator.com with Privacy in the subject line; we respond within one month. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority, or in Australia to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes — most likely when a new advertising or analytics service is adopted — the updated text will be published on this page with a revised date, and material changes will be described in plain language at the top of the policy rather than buried in it.
